It’s Quite A-Peeling…

September 10, 2015

Do you get disappointed of the results after a standard facial? Or want to try a treatment more beneficial without going under the knife – Have you considered a course of Skin Peels?

When you think of skin peels you imagine red, sore faces, and Samantha from ‘Sex and the City’ after that incident – But you’ll be glad to know this is not the case.

Let’s start off by explaining what a Skin Peel is…

A Skin Peel is a highly effective, non-invasive procedure performed to rejuvenate the appearance of the skin by chemical exfoliation. We offer Superficial Skin peels which target and correct different types of skin concerns such as

  • Enlarged pores
  • Rough Skin/Dull Texture
  • Scarring
  • Acne
  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles
  • Pigmentation (Dark spots, Melasma, Sun Damage)

Superficial Peels contain ‘Fruit Acids’ (AHA’s, BHA’s and PHA’s) they work by breaking a bond that’s cementing the dead skin cells together that form on the surface of the skin. The acids also stimulate fibroblasts and increase cellular turnover. Chemical peels can be applied to the face, chest, back or hands.

The intensity of a peel can vary depending on a few factors:

  • Type of peel
  • Skin type
  • Current skincare regime(For best results we recommend that you get started on the correct prescribed products 2 weeks before your first peel ideally so that your skin is prepared – We recommend coming in for a skin consultation (free) prior to the treatment so we can determine which peel is most suited to you, and to talk you through a suited skincare regime.)

The Peel Treatment itself is a fairly quick procedure and actually only stays on your skin for 2 – 3 minutes, the usual description we use for the sensation is a heated tingling feeling, NOT burning and stinging so don’t panic! Obviously everyone has different pain thresh holds, but more often than not, most people aren’t bothered much at all by the sensation especially as it’s such a short amount of time. After the peel we cold compress the skin to cool it down, then either apply a soothing mask (depending on the chosen peel) or pop you straight under the Dermalux LED Light for 20 minutes.

With this treatment we chose the most beneficial wave lengths of light to continue targeting problem areas or even just to reboot your skin cells (It’s like a workout for your skin).

Light Therapy accelerates the body’s own natural repair processes to improve a poor complexion, signs of ageing, sunburn, skin damage, pigmentation and overall skin health. It’s safe, convenient, painless and even relaxing.

After your Skin peel treatment you can expect to experience minimal downtime, however a couple of days after you may encounter some dryness… as the body replenishes the dry skin cells your skin will peel away, it looks similar to the peeling you get if you get sunburn – naughty naughty. It can come away in very small flakes or small sheets of skin this is completely normal. It is important not to interfere with this process – just keep the area moisturised. Within a few days, all this dead skin will have come away revealing brighter, clearer skin.

For optimum results the peels should be spaced 2 weeks apart and after a course of peels and the correct skincare we can assure pure radiant skin will be achieved!
